The Museum Education Service

The service provides a wide variety of inspirational, quality, hands-on experiences for pupils of all ages to learn outside the classroom. 

Museum objects can also be loaned to your school for handling sessions.

Term Time Activities for Schools and Groups

Activity sessions include lots of hands-on opportunities to enrich learning and provide children with memorable experiences in History and across the curriculum.

A wide range of topics are available - or sessions can be planned to suit your needs - just ask!


Handling Collections

We currently have over 27 collections of artifacts, documents and photographs available on loan.

School Membership

School group membership offers several advantages including:

 

  • entrance fee for assisted visits reduced by £1 per child, which could result in a saving of £30 per class per visit
  • free entrance for all children for unassisted visits
  • 6 free handling collections per academic year


Teachers

We provide help with visit planning and a free risk assessment visit for teachers.

 

Students/Adults

Use our research facilities and source materials for coursework, or to undertake an investigation for your own enjoyment. 

 

Special Needs 

We welcome groups with special needs and can adapt any of our activities to your requirements.

 

Useful Links and Resourses

We aim to continue to support your topic in the classroom after your visit. As well as loans of object boxes we can support techer's research in the research library and can sometimes provide you with further resources or point you in the direction of other organisations who can.
