Our visitors' first glimse of the wool merchant's house display is through a wonderful fifteenth-century window from Crazelowman.
This display gives the feel of a wool merchant's living room. Plain and austere it depicts their plain living and commitment to a Puritan faith.
The cloth trade was of huge importance to Devon, particularly to Tiverton. Wealthy merchants based in the area exported cloth from Devon across Europe and to the Near East. These merchants were very generous in the endowment of schools, almshouses and charities to assist the poor locally.
